I'm working late 'cause I'm a singer
Oh, he looks so cute wrapped 'round my finger
Why so sexy if so dumb?
And how survive the Earth so long?

Sure, La Messe de Nostre Dame isn't half the brain-worm-bop that Espresso is - but it was made to serve a much greater purpose than just entertainment. It was composed to entrain and reharmonize. It was meant to heal.

The difference between the two is that Guillaume de Machaut composed his music using Just intonation.

He wrote music using a kinda tonal vocabulary made up of perfect ratios. He used specific interval skeletons to ensure the music was harmonious.

His compositions were mathematically balanced and proportionally whole.

Are we blessed by today's music? Does it inspire us? Does it fill us with resonance and harmony?

If it does not, then what is its function?

Are there any Guillaume de Machaut out there today? Do they exist and we just do not celebrate them? Or has this level of talent, the ability to recognize the mathematics of frequencies and harmonies, somehow poofed from our world?

Give it at least 40 seconds
