Let’s talk about one of the biggest health frauds of our time: SPF. We’ve been told for decades that the sun is dangerous, that its rays are carcinogenic, and that the only way to "stay safe" is by slathering our skin with synthetic, toxic chemicals - SPF 15, 30, 50, 100 - like some kind of magical force field.

But the truth is that these toxins aren't just useless in preventing skin cancer, they are absorbed into breast milk, they harm sperm, they interfere with fertility, they disrupt hormones and worst of all - many studies found sunscreen can even INCREASE long term risk of melanoma.

First, lets breakdown the argument - then we'll review 50 damning published studies.

If The Sun Causes Skin Cancer, Why Wasn't It A Problem For Our Ancestors?

The logic we’ve built around sun exposure and skin cancer is is pretty ass backwards. We’ve been conditioned to see the sun, the very source of all biological life, as some sort of cosmic threat. We’re told that its rays are dangerous, carcinogenic, and that we need to shield ourselves from it with synthetic chemicals and UV-blocking barriers. But let’s ask the obvious question:

If the sun causes skin cancer, then how the hell did our ancestors survive?

Our species has spent every single day under the sun for hundreds of thousands of years. Our ancestors farmed, hunted, migrated, birthed, built homes, raised children, and died under the sun. No SPF. No sunglasses. No shade structures. Just skin and light.

If the sun caused skin cancer, our ancestors would’ve been covered in tumors. But they weren’t. They lived outdoors. They bathed in the sun. They didn’t have SPF 100+ or UV-filtering windows. And yet melanoma was practically unheard of. If the sun truly caused skin cancer, our lineage would have collapsed long before we got the chance to invent sunscreen.

Fast forward to today... we’re indoors more than ever, drowning in synthetic chemicals, lathering on SPF, avoiding the sun like it’s radiation. And yet, somehow, skin cancer is exploding year after year.

The Real History of Skin Cancer

Year U.S. Melanoma Rate
(per 100,000)
Sunscreen Use / Public Attitude Comments
1950s ~1–2 Almost none No SPF, people lived and worked outdoors, skin cancer was rare
1970s ~5 SPF introduced, basic sun avoidance messaging begins Melanoma starts rising, sun starts getting blamed
1990s ~13–15 SPF common, heavy sunscreen marketing More time indoors, less sun, but skin cancer keeps rising
2010s ~22–25 SPF everywhere, “UV fear” mainstream Despite all precautions, melanoma continues to climb
2020s ~30+ (and climbing) Ultra-high SPF, blue light exposure, near-total sun fear The more we avoid the sun, the worse it gets

Let’s put this in perspective. Melanoma and other skin cancers were not commonly documented until the 1800s, and even then, they were rare. The earliest clinical description of melanoma is traced back to 1806, by the French physician René Laennec. And widespread recognition in medical literature didn’t take off until the 20th century, mostly after industrialization and the chemical revolution.

Let that sink in. Skin cancer was barely even mentioned in medical literature until after we introduced synthetic materials, synthetic pharmaceuticals / vitamins / supplements, artificial lighting, industrial pollution, widespread artificial EMF, sunscreen, and chemical-laden body care.

But instead we just accept: “The sun causes cancer. Therefore, we must block the sun.”

Ok sure, let’s ignore the fact that the sun built our biology, that every plant, every animal, every cell is tuned to light. Let’s ignore that skin cancer didn’t exist in pre-industrial populations despite daily sun exposure. Let’s ignore that modern SPF chemicals generate free radicals when exposed to UV, and that we’re filling our skin with synthetic oils, endocrine disruptors, and nanoparticle toxins. Let’s ignore that people who avoid the sun have higher all-cause mortality, worse mental health, lower immune function, and a far greater risk of internal cancers.

Sunlight Is Not the Enemy

The sun is not trying to kill us. Sunlight is life. It’s encoded with frequencies that literally power every single living system. We are electromagnetic, photon-sensitive organisms designed to interact with the full spectrum of sunlight: UVA, UVB, infrared, visible light, and even cosmic rays.

We know the sun is essential for:

  • Vitamin D synthesis (which regulates over 1,000 genes)
  • Mitochondrial activation (especially via red and infrared light)
  • Melatonin and circadian rhythm regulation
  • Cellular detox and DNA repair
  • Structured water generation in cells
  • Immune modulation and pathogen defense

Your skin is a solar panel. Your cells eat light. Mitochondria are tuned to light frequencies. When you block light, you’re not preventing disease - you’re blocking health.

The idea that UV light causes skin cancer is a gross oversimplification. Yes, UV can damage cells, but only in the absence of photonic resilience, that is, when the body’s electromagnetic field is already compromised. Cancer doesn’t begin with light - it begins with systemic de-coherence: damaged mitochondria, disrupted cell signaling, blocked detox pathways, and a chaotic biofield. Sunlight doesn't create that. Industrial living does.

SPF: A Chemical Shield Against ... Nature?

Here’s the kicker: as SPF usage has skyrocketed, so have rates of melanoma and skin cancer. That alone should stop us in our tracks. If SPF actually worked as advertised, we’d be seeing a decline. But instead:

  • Sunscreen use is at an all-time high
  • Sunlight exposure is at an all-time low
  • Melanoma rates continue to climb

Why? Because we’re looking in the wrong direction. We’ve misdiagnosed the cause.

Now look at what’s actually in SPF products: titanium dioxide, oxybenzone, avobenzone, homosalate, and nanoparticle zinc oxide, most of which are endocrine disruptors, DNA disruptors, and photosensitive agents that generate free radicals when exposed to sunlight.

You read that right... SPF products literally become reactive under the sun. They absorb UV light and create oxidative stress at the skin level. That’s inflammation. That’s damage. That’s pre-cancer, created by the so-called “protection.”

Add to this the fact that these chemicals block your ability to synthesize vitamin D, a critical hormone-like compound that regulates immune function, cancer prevention, and gene expression, and you’ve got a pharmaceutical sabotage masquerading as public health.

So What's Actually Causing Skin Cancer?

The sun doesn’t cause cancer. The sun reveals dysfunction. When the body is burdened with synthetic material and oxidative stress, sunlight brings that dysfunction to the surface. And we call it disease.

We’ve become incompatible with the very light that built us, because we’ve saturated ourselves with unnatural frequencies and unnatural substances. Thanks to synthetic skincare, seed oils, processed foods, synthetic pharmaceuticals, synthetic vitamins and supplements our cellular integrity is poor.

Now layer on top of that the constant exposure to WiFi, 5G, and dirty electricity weakens the body’s field, making it more susceptible to oxidative injury.Lastly, and most ironically, our avoidance of the sun weakens our skin’s resilience. Regular, intelligent sun exposure builds melanin intelligence - our body’s own SPF.

Skin cancer isn’t a result of sunlight. It’s the result of a disordered energy field, full of artificial inputs, that can no longer respond adaptively to light. Until we face that, until we stop blaming nature for the damage caused by industry, we’ll never get to the root of the cancer crisis.

So the next time someone tells you to fear the sun, ask them:
“If the sun causes skin cancer, how did we survive 300,000 years without it?”

Because the real answer?
We didn’t just survive in the sun - we were sustained by it.

The Body Is Built to Handle the Sun (If It's Supported)

Healthy skin in a healthy biofield doesn't burn easily. Melanin, cholesterol, structured water in the cells, these all act as natural regulators of light and heat. The sun is meant to interact with your mitochondria, your fascia, your pineal gland. The body knows what to do with solar input... if it's not full of plastics, aluminum, and synthetic chemistry.

Want real protection?

Eat real fats: coconut oil, tallow, olive oil - these stabilize the skin’s structure.

Support detox pathways: liver, lymph, fascia - get the trash out so cells can breathe.

Ditch seed oils: they oxidize in your skin and make you more photosensitive.

Sunbathe smart: build up your exposure gradually. Avoid burning, but don’t avoid the sun.

SPF Is a Product, Not a Science

The SPF industry racks in over $13.3 billion dollars a year. It's a massive industry. It's in skincare, cosmetics, our clothes, our window tint - we have become obsessed with blocking out the sun like it's going to save us.

But the truth is that SPF is a sales tactic, not a truth. It’s one more layer of synthetic intervention designed to make you fear your own environment and buy the solution from a corporation. It’s backwards, it’s harmful, and it’s time we shined some light on the myth that is SPF.

Ok, So What's The Science Got To Say?
